NewSETS is all about storing energy. The project combines demonstrations, feasibility studies, market and system analyses, as well as communication and dissemination around energy storage.

At the core of the project are both underground pumped hydro storage and seasonal heat storage. The pumped hydro storage will be demonstrated in the project, while for seasonal heat storage, the project team will perform feasibility studies.

In addition, the effects of the storage solutions on the energy system are comprehensively studied. System analysis is combined with research on multi-objective business models of the storage solutions and with replicability and scalability analyses in other locations. The technology-specific storage analyses are combined with other storage solutions as well.

The aim is to establish a positive attitude among stakeholders, making the execution of the project smoother and the climate change mitigation efforts visible to everyone. This is achieved by using skilful communication and dissemination.

“Based on feasibility studies, demonstration, and replicability analyses, we will provide market and regulatory suggestions to enhance energy storage integration.”
